All About Me - Chandler C.

My time as a wine drinker started in the summer of 2016 when I picked up my mom's glass and stole a sip of her drink without knowing what was in the glass. It was then that I knew I liked sweet alcohol. Especially the alcohol that was in her glass. It was sweet, bubbly, and just good. I later found out it was Moscato she was drinking.

I had always been curious about alcohol in general, but wine specifically. It seemed like this world where only the rich got to drink wine and know how to describe it and whatnot. It was a world unbeknownst to me and I wanted desperately to understand it and be a part of it. As I've mentioned, I had only ever had the sip I stole from my mother. All I knew was sweet wines. I just didn't know where to start. One of the obvious hurdles to jump was the fact that I was underage at the time. So I knew I would have to get creative to try wine and get my foot in the door.

Around the age of 18, I begged one of my friends to buy me wine. While it was the best choice at the time, I totally regret it now. I was given Mad Dog 2020 since it technically is a wine, and that was a terrible experience. The alcohol taste was too much but the flavor was good. It was sweet and candy-like. I decided that I would wait until I was older and of age to actually try wine and buy it at stores. It was daunting at first as I didn't really want to buy a whole bottle of wine in case I didn't like it. I got my mom to help me decipher what means what to the best of her knowledge and I went from there.

For this class, I hope to learn as much as possible about wine. I want to know the different grapes, regions, how its made, how it's bottled, and all of that. I want to be more educated in the area of wine as it is a drink I enjoy very much but have little experience with.
