Wine Review: "Very good with steak." "Delicious, not too dry." "Deep, rich grape/blackberry flavor. Very warming. Tannins are definitely there but still very drinkable. Cherry mild flavor; aftertaste a somewhat subtle, mild, meaty chestnut flavor. Possibly a floral note even." - Vivino.com
Wine Folly: pg. 175 - Tempranillo. Tempranillo generally has a lot of body, tannins, alcohol, and acidity with low sweetness. The typical notes in Tempranillo are cherry, tobacco, cedar, dill, and dried fig. They can be opened and consumed young but they are best when they have been aged for a little while in an oak barrel. More refined Tempranillos pair best with gourmet burgers, steak, lamb, baked pasta, and tomato-based dishes.
Personal Take: When I first tasted this wine I was hit with the tannins that give the mouth pucker feel. I got notes of cherry, plum, oak, blackberry, and a hint of chocolate. Once I let the wine sit for about 5-10 minutes in my glass, the wine opened up and it was definitely more palatable. It is still a dry wine which I am getting used to but this one went down semi-smooth. At least smoother than other wines I have tried. If I were hosting a dinner party I would definitely serve this is the main course. However, this is not something I would buy to drink on its own.
