Tasting - "Taylor New York Port Wine"

Image
Name: Taylor New York est. 1880 Port Wine  Variety/Cultivar : Concord  Country : USA - Canandaigua, New York  Vintage : Not specified/clear on bottle Price : 7.99 Winery Review : Rob Swenson - Vivino "This translucent, ruby-colored port/sweet wine has a medium body and a medium finish on cherry cola. In the nose, I get cherry, chocolate, caramel, and cola. I taste cherry, cola, and chocolate. Low acid Low astringency Low complexity Smooth texture The port wasn't as complex as I would have hoped so it didn't pair well with anything I tried."  Wine Folly : Pg. 48 - Fortified wines. With port wines, spirits are added halfway through the fermentation process. The alcohol stops the fermentation process, stabilizing the wine and leaving the wine particularly sweet. Pg. 154 - Port. Port wines are famously fortified in Portugal, the most famous being a blend. They can range in styles from white, rose, red, and tawny. They are generally high in alcohol, sweetness, tannins,

Dinner at Cabo Fish Taco

Image
To celebrate Valentine's Day and not break the bank, my boyfriend and I went to Cabo Fish Taco for dinner, one of our favorite places. To start off we had chips and queso with their homemade salsa. We looked over the drinks menu and landed on the Seven Falls Cabernet Sauvignon. This was a lot drier than I expected. The appetizer of chips and salsa could have been a factor. The wine itself was full-bodied with deep flavors of blackberry, cherry, plum, a slight oak flavor, and something else I had not tasted before. I have tried to figure out what it was but I cannot. Unfortunately, I did not get a picture of the glass of wine. However, I asked the waiter to bring me a glass of sangria and I mixed the two, I do have a picture of that. I order the chicken and shrimp burrito with the avocado pasta salad and tried the cabernet with my meal. The flavors meshed but not in the way I was expecting. The spiciness of the chicken seemed to make the cabernet drier but the pasta salad seemed to

Name : Stella Rosa Imperiale Moscato Rose Sparkling Wine  Variety/Cultivar : Moscato  Country : Italy - Imported to Los Angeles, California Price : 17.99  Vintage : Not printed on label  Winery Review : The fountain of youth is found in every bottle of Stella Rosa Imperiale Moscato Rosé, a fully sparkling wine that is easy on the eyes and the palate with a flavor profile of summer peach, apricot, and wildflower. For an enhanced experience, it is best paired with pork and red velvet cake.  Wine Folly : Pg. 139 Moscato d'Asti. A very light and delicate sparkling Muscat Blanc from the Asti region of Piedmont in Italy that has one of the lowest alcohol by volume levels for wine (5.5%) by reserving the grape sugars for the wine. Typical notes are mandarin orange, vanilla bean, honeysuckle, rose petal, and lemon. Pg. 140 Muscat of Alexandria. Primarily used for dessert wines, this wine has high sweetness, very low tannins and alcohol, low acidity, and medium body. Notes of peach, white b

Name : Cupcake Vineyards  Variety : California Rosé  Country : USA - Coastal California  Year : 2021  Price : $7.99  Wine Review : Our Rosé comes from vineyards along California’s alluring coastline where the sun-drenched days slowly ripen our grapes and cool nights ensure a bright, crisp wine. Elegant flavors of watermelon, strawberry, and white nectarine lead to a silky texture and a refreshing finish. Serve with prosciutto-wrapped melon, an arugula salad, or just as a delightful complement to a warm, sunny day. Wine Folly : Pg. 134 - Bandol Rose. While reds have more depth, roses are light (surprisingly so) with notes of strawberry and white peach with a subtle pink hue. There will also be notes of white blossom, white pepper, black pepper, and violet. Pg. 290 - Coastal California. The north coast is most famous for Napa Valley with full-body reds and sparkling wines. The Central Coast is where you will find the perfect conditions for Chardonnay and Pinot No

Name : Bay Bridge Vineyards  Variety : 51% Pinot Grigio 49% Colombard  Country : USA - California - Napa and Ripon Valley  Price : $4.99  Year : 2022 Wine Review : The 2008 vintage is the best year from various reviews. Various reviews also say this wine is good for cooking. It pairs well with seafood, pasta, and white meat. A lot of people say it is good for the price and is a great find at any grocery store for a cheap price.  Wine Folly : Pg 149 - Pinot Grigio: Typically has notes of white peach, lemon zest, cantaloupe, raw almond, and crushed gravel. The main consensus is it is a delicious wine for the price. 2022.  Wine Folly: Page 292 North Coast, CA. Cabernet Sauvignon with rich fruit and dusty mineral notes such as black currant, black cherry, graphite, cigar box, and mint. Merlot (similar to Cabernet) with bolder cherry flavors and smoother tannins. The general notes of this are vanilla, cherry, cedar, and toasted nutmeg. Zinfandel with some of the richest mineral styles. The general notes in this are cocoa, blackberry bramble, raspberry sauce, and sweet tobacco.  Personal Take: This is on the drier side of wine than I normally drink. However, this is a wine that I would buy again. I get the notes of cherries, blackberries, strawberries, and other fruits. I also get notes of oak, vanilla, and leather. If I were to want
